- Durham Gathering
The Durham Gathering is a great festival which springs from the wealth of talent, both tutors and students, at the Folkworks Summer School. There are concerts starring many of the fine artists who are our tutors, and a showcase concert featuring Summer School students.
Every Summer Durham City bursts into music and dancing, with the Durham Gathering offering a free open air concert at the folk picnic, and performances around the City Centre. The Gathering also includes recitals by Summer School Tutors. Admission for students is free to events at which they are performing. - Morpeth Gathering
Morpeth Gathering has been running since 1966 following a concert of Northumbrian music and song held to raise funds for Morpeth Antiquarian Society. It was the inspiration for a one-day Northumbrian festival in March 1968 which evolved into the Morpeth Gathering. The festival includes a vast array of competitions including crafts, performance and writing. Events of local interest nave been added to the programme of concerts, singarounds, barn dance, storytelling, theatre and street performance which includes a young people's pageant as part of the Border Cavalcade. - Newcastleton Traditional Music Festival
Founded in 1970 this festival is held around a series of competitions linked by dances and organised ceilidhs on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. One of the most popular events is the 'Grand Winners Concert' on Saturday night, featuring the best of the day's competitors. - Rothbury Traditional Music Festival
First held in 1977 The Rothbury festival is based very much on the Newcastleton Festival and retains a great use of local talent and traditional music. Rothbury have their own Highland Pipe Band, who open the outdoor proceedings with a display of their marching and playing skills. If the weather is fair many of the events, including Ceilidhs, are held in the local animal auction mart, which is an arena-like venue with great acoustics and tremendous atmosphere. - Whitby Folk Festival
Whitby Folk Week takes place annually in Whitby, North Yorkshire, during the last full week in August (i.e. immediately preceding the English Bank Holiday), Saturday to Friday inclusive.
